What Is Mock Interview?

The short answer

A mock interview is a practice run of an interview with feedback. It is the cheapest way to find the gaps in your answers before the real thing costs you a job.

A mock interview is a practice run of a real interview — with questions asked out loud, answers delivered, and honest feedback at the end. It works because speaking an answer is completely different from thinking it. Mocks expose rambling STAR stories, weak behavioral answers, and body-language tells before the real stakes. Practice on a friend, a mentor, a camera, or an AI — the goal is feedback and reps.

In plain English

A mock interview is rehearsal. You answer the questions you will actually get, out loud, and someone (or something) tells you how it landed. The first mock always reveals gaps; the tenth makes you smooth. It is the difference between hoping and being ready.

Why it matters to you

Interviews are selling — and like selling, they improve with reps and feedback. A few mocks before an interview measurably tighten your why-sales story, your strengths answers, and your offer posture. It is the single cheapest way to raise your chance at the offer.

Even one recorded practice round will show you the filler words, dead ends and gaps in your stories, and fixing them is pure compounding on the real interview. Rehearse out loud, because thinking is not the same as speaking.
